13:13 - Kim Caise
many are very challenging!
13:51 - Harvey
How about 9-12 applications?
13:52 - Maria Droujkova
Maureen, virtual manipulatives can be more powerful than anything in physical world - for example, you can take a tour through the galaxy (zoom in and out for place values or powers) - not something physically possible
13:52 - Maureen 1
Sugar sugar was a fav for my kids, as well as logic games like civi balls
14:18 - Maria Droujkova
Also, with virutal manipulatives, you can save, undo, redo, and share easily
14:23 - Kim Caise
many are applicable for most grade levels
15:21 - Maureen 1
@maria, I agree, but as a former K teacher firmly believe in handling material
15:22 - Kim Caise
the games and apps are not just skill and drill
16:01 - Maureen 1
Some are soo challenging!
16:43 - @plnaugle (Paula)
I agree that manipulatives should be hands on first, then virtual.
17:05 - stidmama
Love how these slides are highlighting Common Core. :-)
17:13 - Maureen 1
The one where you paint the balls is fun, but hard
17:36 - Maria Droujkova
I think you can do DIFFERENT things with physical objects and virtual objects - you need both in your life and in your learning
17:45 - barbara
are the games leveled or grade recommendations
17:49 - Maria Droujkova
they don't replace one another
17:50 - @plnaugle (Paula)
My favorite virtual manipulative site is by Glencoe. http://www.glencoe.com/sites/common_assets/mathematics/ebook_assets/vmf/VMF-Interface.html
17:52 - Harvey
Link to Common Core aligned ?
18:05 - Lisa 1

Mathlanding was developed by Maryland Public TV with The Math Forum and NSF. It is a FREE digital database of math lessons and interactive resorces for K-5. It also has a wonderful library of pd and teacher collections. It is searchable by grade, topic, audience and CCSS standards.
