08:30 - @bcdtech Maureen
It's hard for some kids to get involved, stay connected with the group. I often add a digital version to add a way for all the kids to get involved.

THANKS
11:37 - Danny Fain
Last year for International Games Day, at my local public library I implemented and facilitated a BreakoutEDU published game ("The Mighty Pen"). It went great, with a group of diverse middle-schoolers. Now planning a similar experience for this November's International Games Week. Also thinking about working with students to create a game at the independent school where I teach game design and programming.
11:39 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Love the Faculty Meeting game for staff.
12:08 - Peggy George
tons of great ideas on this Pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.com/kariaug/breakout-edu/ (BreakoutEDU resources on Pinterest. Codes, ciphers, puzzles, fonts, and other resources for cooperative escape games)
12:37 - Peggy George
very interesting! most people think the prize is what is in the box!
13:03 - Peggy George
if you have questions for Patti as we go along please type them in the chat and Lorie will ask her on the mic after the presentation.
13:11 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Brian Mull, a fellow teacher here in Louisiana, has created an elective at his school where 8th graders create BreakoutEDU games.
13:42 - Peggy George
if any of you have links to Breakout EDU games you have created or discovered please share them in the chat and I'll add them to our Livebinder.
13:53 - Peggy George
Hi Liz Booth! Welcome!
14:23 - Peggy George
Danny, that is awesome! Do you have a link to a blog or the game that you could share with us?
14:46 - @plnaugle (Paula)
I use many invisible ink clues because my students love using the Uv flashlight to find them.
14:51 - @bcdtech Maureen
I've made a few games, but they use lots of extra stuff. I did a continents game, but had a small box for every continent, then used the clues from those to get into the big box. Same with my Ellis Island game- wanted them to visit all the stations...
15:14 - Peggy George
do you mix up the clues so they move between easy/hard or build up to the hard?
15:29 - Peggy George
that sounds amazing Maureen!
15:52 - Peggy George
what a great idea Paula! Didn't know about invisible ink clues!

17:05 - Peggy George

The directional lock if a favorite for my kids.
21:18 - Susan Davies

23:39 - Susie @shighley
That's the game I've used the most
23:41 - Danny Fain
Sorry I don't yet have a blog-post to share. The game I used, "The Mighty Pen", is available on the BreakoutEDU website, you just need to register for an account to view it.

Thanks Danny!!! I'll look for it!
24:50 - Susie @shighley

25:08 - Peggy George
no idea!
25:22 - Colleen
Wow!
25:24 - @bcdtech Maureen
This is the link to my digital games- a couple I made, but most are either only slightly modified from others, or just the digital version of other folks' games http://breakouteduhes.weebly.com
25:27 - Peggy George
that's a code I understand :-)
25:40 - Peggy George
thank you Paula and Maureen!!
25:56 - Peggy George
Paula, I included your presentation slides in our Livebinder today :-)
26:00 - @bcdtech Maureen
Once the kids do a few of these, they get some idea of what to look for.
26:16 - jackiegerstein

Thanks, Maureen. I will be using your game with my 4th graders.

36:03 - Peggy George
love it Susie!
36:09 - Dianne
Hi everyone. I am in an Edcamp so I am only watching.
36:37 - Dianne
I mentioned Breakout EDU and then remembered to jump on here.
36:39 - Peggy George
that's great Dianne!!!! Thanks for squeezing us in!!! The recording will be in the Livebinder later today.
36:44 - @bcdtech Maureen
I like using the brainstorming sheet- just to help me figure out all the connections
36:55 - Adam
Hi Dianne - impressive Multitasking ;)
37:03 - Tina Schmidt #2
Yes, those videos are very helpful!
37:09 - Peggy George
that brainstorming worksheet looks really helpful!
37:11 - @plnaugle (Paula)

@Paula- they sure are!

37:39 - Susie @shighley
Paula, how often do you use breakouts?
37:47 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Watching the setup videos also gets my brain working on how I could design a game.

really glad to hear you mention the importance of copyright in creating these games!

39:00 - Susie @shighley
The videos are great. Teachers are always amazed when I show them how thorough the website is
39:03 - Tina Schmidt #2
@Susie, I did 4 of them with my 3rd grade last year. That was my first year. I'll probably do more this year.
39:25 - Susie @shighley
Thanks, Tina
39:35 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Loved The Dot breakout game. My students were thrilled to see the letter from Peter and to get a Dot Day bookmark when they broke into the box. I told them I met Peter Reynolds in person at FableVision thanks to Discovery Education Summer Institute.
39:46 - @bcdtech Maureen
I end up using tons of stuff, but am trying to pare it down- also have color printed waaay too much stuff... another goal to cut down
39:51 - Tina Schmidt #2
@Colleen Pixabay is a free photo website. https://pixabay.com/
39:59 - Lula Garcí
I´ thinking about designing a game related to Plate Tectonics. Mexico is going through a tough time because of the earthquake, so it´ current event. The story could be related to survive the earthquake and questions and clues about the content we are covering in Science.
40:01 - Peggy George
thanks Tina :-)
40:03 - Dianne
Hey Adam they're talking about breakout here deeply if there's anything you want to add.
40:12 - Peggy George
I'll add the Pixabay link to the Livebinder
40:15 - Colleen
Thanks Tina!
40:34 - Adam
:) Thanks Dianne
40:46 - Adam
Patti's totally got this!

Remember to write with Invisible Ink BEFORE you laminate... lessons learned
41:16 - Peggy George
https://www.breakoutedu.com/faq (BreakoutEDU Frequently Asked Questions)
41:19 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Yes, I am creating folders for the printed resources for the games I do with my students so that I can reuse and not use a ton of color toner.
41:24 - Peggy George
great advice Maureen!
41:54 - Peggy George
please type your questions here in the chat for Patti and Lorie will ask her on the mic during Q/A
42:19 - @plnaugle (Paula)
I truly believe that the debrief after playing the game is so very important. I will give them less time to play, so that we have time to debrief.
42:20 - Dianne
Is the texting stream also recorded?
42:40 - Lorie Moffat
Yes, chat is in the recording.
42:41 - Peggy George
if any of you would like to take the mic to share your ideas or questions please raise your hand and we'll give you the mic
43:32 - Peggy George
Dianne, the chat log will be posted in our archives along with the recording later today http://live.classroom20.com/archive-and-resources
43:46 - Monica Gochicoa
What number of participants do you recommend? How do you deal with those students not engaged when it is the whole class participating?
43:48 - @bcdtech Maureen
I don't really "hide" clues, we will run out of time!
43:50 - Dianne
Thank you very much.
44:17 - Tina Schmidt #2
I like to put out 4 or 5 boxes around with one lock on each box instead of using all of the locks on one box with the hasp. Easier flow in the classroom.
44:30 - Peggy George
Paula would you like to take the mic to share how you do the debrief?
44:36 - Peggy George
or anything else??? :-)
44:38 - @bcdtech Maureen
My kids have started to look at the locks to figure out what type of clues they are looking for.
44:44 - Anthippi Harou
How do students interact? Do they have their own accounts or is the game printed/projected on a board for the whole class?
44:50 - Susie @shighley
Hadn't thought of that, Tina. Great idea
45:18 - Peggy George
https://www.breakoutedu.com/blog/2015/9/2/breakout-edu-the-hint-cards (BreakoutEDU: The Hint Cards by James Sanders)
45:42 - @bcdtech Maureen
I try to do both digital and physical... helps some of my kids stay involved. I also generally make the ending dependent upon both groups coming up with answers that the other needed
45:46 - Susie @shighley
Then do you pull out the signs from somewhere after all are opened?
45:55 - Tina Schmidt #2
@Susie - You can put puzzle pieces or tickets in the box so they are collecting something on the way. The Custodian Game works like that and my kids loved when I did it that way.
45:58 - Peggy George
raise your hand if you'd like to share on the mic :-) Click on the hand icon right below your name under participants.
46:39 - Peggy George
thanks for sharing your tips here in the chat! really helpful!
46:56 - @bcdtech Maureen
@ Tina, I used that method with my continents game- each group picked up a clue from a box as they went around. It really helped with the flow around the room
47:26 - Peggy George
Paula and Cindy have their hands up :-) Woo hoo!! Lorie will call on you.
47:49 - Tina Schmidt #2
Less frustrating as they can test a lock as soon as they figure out the clue.
49:00 - Peggy George
that's a huge mind shift for some :-)
49:14 - @bcdtech Maureen
I find that as well. Especially the adults in the room!
49:37 - Peggy George
love that question!!!
49:39 - Susie @shighley
Sometimes you won't know how they will react until you try it
49:49 - Peggy George
doesn't HAVE to require digital!
49:59 - Anthippi Harou
Thank you!
50:11 - Monica Gochicoa
Thank you!
50:53 - Adam
Awesome job, Patti!
