I have a quick question, before we start. Has anyone here had difficulty with the DC page this morning? When I go to the projects page, all I see is: No projects match your search at this moment, but classrooms still need your help!
Try a broader search:

25:00 - @bcdtech Maureen
Hi Paula and Peggy... sorry- splitting my time in too many places today!
25:18 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Hi Maureen. Nice to see you here.
25:22 - Peggy George
http://www.donorschoose.org/donor/2180373/?tab=PROJECTS_SUPPORTED (Paula’ DonorsChoose projects)
25:30 - Jenn McMaster #2
So only if they want a thank u note then u only send a couple then
25:31 - Peggy George
oh no!!! lost projects??? so sad!
25:45 - Peggy George
love technology....when it works :-)
25:51 - Jennifer Maier
5 per donor
25:56 - Jennifer Maier
i believe
26:11 - @plnaugle (Paula)
But that was a good learning lesson for the rest of us who were sharing the Google Doc. :)
26:17 - Jenn McMaster #2
But when I clicked on e link it said only 1 person wanted a thank u note
26:26 - Jenn McMaster #2
But I had 10 donors
26:28 - Joan Howze
Feel free to check out my DC page for TY and photo ideas! http://www.donorschoose.org/jhowze
26:36 - Christina Purcell #2
Yes 5 per donor that requests them
26:47 - Jennifer Maier
only if a donor donated $50 or over can they request thank you
26:57 - Jenny Jones 1
Here's my project link...hopefully it works!
26:59 - Jenny Jones 1

27:11 - Peggy George
I got a wonderful package of thank you drawings from a Kdg class I supported for Chromebooks. There were 5 drawings and a letter from the teacher. I think she made copies of them to be able to send them out to all donors. But they looked original :-)
27:12 - Jenny Jones 1
Yes, social media is a gift for teachers!
27:20 - Joan Howze
Donors can request personal TY notes from your kids IF they donate $50 or more. That's the only time that you have to do that.
27:22 - Peggy George
thanks Jenny!!! such great tips!
27:25 - @bcdtech Maureen
lost my audio- will go out and come back ./...
28:13 - Peggy George
sometimes there is a lag in the audio if you are having a bandwidth issue but it usually catches up.
28:23 - Jenny Jones 1
Oh yeah! Another good idea is to donate to your OWN project! It sets a good example to potential donors! :)
28:26 - Jenn McMaster #2
Can I do it online then? Like write thank u notes and post it on there
28:35 - Jennifer Maier
no
28:38 - Peggy George
if you have audio issues you should run audio setup wizard again and that often solves the problem
28:52 - Jenn McMaster #2
I mean for people who didn't request notes
28:52 - Peggy George
absolutely! donate to your own projects :-)
28:56 - Jenny Jones 1
You can write short thank you notes online to the donors but you need to send physical letters as well if people have requested them.
28:57 - Jennifer Maier
they want actual thank you from the kids to mail to the donors
29:14 - Peggy George
www.donorschoose.org/rbuckhoff (Rebecca’ DonorsChoose page)
29:14 - @bcdtech Maureen #2
Hi Paeggy- back- too many things open I think...
29:15 - Jenn McMaster #2
I only had 1 request according to her site
29:17 - @bcdtech Maureen #2
Peggy
29:18 - Jenny Jones 1
People who don't request letters should get a little thank you note on your project page.
29:33 - Peggy George
you feel so awesome when your donation gets matched by another group
29:57 - Jenny Jones 1
People can also buy gift cards to give to you as well. You can use it toward your project or save it for a future projet!
29:59 - Jenn McMaster #2
So I can write ind. to all my donors...online..like
30:02 - Peggy George
so glad you're back Maureen! I can relate to that problem! closed about 93 tabs before the show today :-)

32:03 - Peggy George

33:53 - Francie Kugelman
Someone had an interesting Facebook post today that her teacher friend was jealous that their project wasn't getting funded, but the FB poster had their projects funded.
34:16 - Joan Howze
Peggy, can you post the links to Francie & Laura's two webinars? I can't seem to locate them. TY
34:25 - Peggy George
would any of you like to take the mic to share your experiences or ideas about DonorsChoose during the Q/A??? :-)
34:49 - Peggy George
The links to their webinars are in our Livebinder for today. http://www.livebinders.com/play/play?id=1261665

35:25 - Dotty
When I it funded, I looked at other funded projects.
35:35 - Joan Howze
TY ---- I don't want to take the mic, but I'd highly suggest that everyone watch both of their webinars and then join Caring Classrooms Community!
35:45 - Jennifer Maier
definately
35:55 - Peggy George
that's a great idea Dotty! can learn so much by looking at other projects that have been funded!
36:18 - Jennifer Maier
family and friends are more willing to donate knowing that there donation will be matched
36:18 - Peggy George
thanks Joan! I agree!!!
36:19 - Francie Kugelman
The FB poster detailed all the extra work she did to help her project get funded: "The teachers that have success are teachers that support other DC teachers, support DC giving pages, started with small projects, promoted their project, donated a small amount to their own project to show donors they are invested in supporting their students, put together thoughtful thank you notes, thank each donor after their donation, in turn donors will continue to support...don't post your DC projects after I have helped you with the process and sit back and do absolutely nothing to promote it and then bitch at me that I got another project funded and you don't have a signal donation...this will not get your project funded and it will turn me off from helping to promote your project. IEvery successful DC teacher started small."
36:22 - Joan Howze
I get project ideas by looking at the projects on the projects page! :-)
36:26 - Jenny Jones 1
DonorsChoose has a template letter/email that you can fill in to send out as well!

39:04 - Francie Kugelman
Resources you might want: Leapfrog readers, gardening tools, hoses (Disney grant still available), toner, projector, document camera, class set of books, I love class sets of read alouds so we can all dig in and see the illustrations too, rug
39:18 - Joan Howze
Anyone who would like to friend me on FB, I'd love to chat and will help as much as I can with any questions you may have. :-)
39:23 - Jenn McMaster #2
What kind of hoses
39:35 - Jenny Jones 1
I've seen teachers ask for playground materials, exercise balls, bean bag chairs, classroom library materials, etc.
39:43 - Peggy George
that slidedeck with link to the recording from Francie and Laura in 2011 is excellent--in the Livebinder :-)
39:58 - Peggy George
yes!!! please raise your hand if you'd like to take the mic!
40:05 - Francie Kugelman
A lot of times the iPad proposals do not get funded, so think of more creative resources to ask for.
40:25 - Peggy George
http://bit.ly/1m5F0o8 (Francie Kugelman’ slidedeck on DonorsChoose)
40:40 - Francie Kugelman
Lately, no one wants a thank you letter! That makes it so easy for me. But always write a meaningful thank you reply.
41:12 - wfryer
What different policies do districts have about teachers using Donors Choose? Any advice about working these projects in large districts?
41:19 - Peggy George

41:22 - Francie Kugelman
I have to go. Good luck everyone! Join us by liking the Caring Classrooms Facebook page. Post your questions on the wall, and Laura Candler and I will respond.
41:50 - Jenny Jones 1
Lorie, could I share about the thank yous as well
41:51 - Jenny Jones 1
?
41:55 - Sara
I teach high school art and have a limited budget. I asked my students "what is one material or tool you have always wanted to use?" I made a list and have been writing projects based on what they would like to use. I have had six funded so far.
42:10 - Peggy George
can you share your experience with whether teachers get to keep what they purchase from DonorsChoose grants if they change schools?
42:29 - Peggy George
feel free to raise your hand if you'd like to take the mic
42:33 - Francie Kugelman
Remember - the projects that get funded are small, and have many donors. Donate to your friend's project and have them donate to your project! Have your husband, mom, grandma donate to your project - even if it is $1 - because then you have lots of donors!
42:52 - Peggy George
2nd icon right below your name under participants
42:54 - Jenn McMaster #2
Can u mail one to everyone then
43:03 - Joan Howze
Sara - great idea! Get the kids involved! Then, send a note to parents explaining DC and post the URL to your giving page. And, don't forget to ask your parents to share the info with family and friends! :-)
43:09 - Peggy George
3rd icon :-) oops! shows in the slide right now
43:21 - Eileen
Yes, need to know about this .
43:27 - Jenny Jones 1
You mail your thank you letters to DC and they mail them for you. You get a free mailing label to send your letters to DC.
43:48 - Jennifer Maier
at parent conferences and meet the teacher night I show my parents the page and I will send out an email to my parents when I post a new project
43:59 - Jenn McMaster #2
Joan I Facebooked u...Jamie Rickman I couldn't find u
44:09 - Peggy George
Tons of great DonorsChoose resources in our Livebinder, both for today's show and last week's show :-) http://www.livebinders.com/play/play?id=1261665
44:11 - Jenny Jones 1
@Jenn, you don't have to mail them yourself. You collect the thank you materials and send them to DonorsChoose. DC will email you a free mailing label as well!
44:30 - Joan Howze
The materials you recieve belong to the classroom, not to the school or to the teacher. If you move to another school, you can take your materials with you, IF you get written permission from your principal. --- per DC
44:31 - Sara
I haven't sent anything home to parents. Do you get a good response?
44:32 - Jennifer Maier
I have gottten quite a few projects fully funded because of my students parents
44:36 - colleen #2
Speaking from a donor's prerspective, a thoughtful thank you on the project page after receiving a contribution is greatly appreciated. I've donated twice just on the strength of the teacher's response!
44:42 - colleen #2
perspective
44:51 - Peggy George
many parents are on Facebook and can share with their friends!!
44:53 - Joan Howze
Jenn McMaster - you can find Jamie through my friends list on FB
45:14 - Peggy George
I love getting those personalized thank you's :-)
45:24 - Jenn McMaster #2
Can u write thankful note individual to each person
45:53 - Jennifer Maier
yes after they donate you write a short thank you to each donor
46:01 - colleen #2
Jenn, you can do that directly on your project page.
46:08 - Peggy George
last week Francie told us you should have some draft projects prepared and ready to go for posting
46:18 - Jennifer Maier
yes you should
46:26 - Jenny Jones 1
@Jenn, when you write the letters, they'll be addressed to the donors who asked for the letters. You can write individual notes on your project page as well.

That's why I haven't sent anything home - same reason high poverty reason
46:42 - Peggy George
even if the parent doesn't donate they can tell their online friends and relatives :-)
47:02 - Eileen
I feel my principal would be hesitant for me to ask parents for support. But we have such a limited budget we just have to buy things ourselves.
47:03 - Sara
I've sent the DC release form home but haven't asked for parents to donate
47:15 - Peggy George
think of it as providing them information and encouraging your parents to help spread the word because it benefits their kids :-)
47:16 - Jennifer Maier
yes one parent I had last week spread the word and I got an additional 11 new donors
47:17 - Jenn McMaster #2
I wanted to do individual ones on the site
47:26 - Peggy George
I think Francie dropped out
47:34 - Peggy George
she may have lost her connection :-(

49:00 - Lorie Moffat
yes, Peggy, that's in chat
49:04 - Sara
I've seen a lot of preschools request rugs it snacks
49:05 - Peggy George

49:20 - Peggy George
please say it on the mic Lorie for people who won't see the chat :-)
49:21 - Jenn McMaster #2

One thing DC says is that you're not supposed to ask for things to use toward fundraising.
50:13 - Joan Howze
I also look at projects on the DC projects page (the ones that are almost funded).
50:17 - Peggy George
great tip Jenny
50:25 - Sean Cotter
I do projects in my math class that need devices and my school it is hard to get one or two devices for use in class. Like an I Touch or tablet. Is this something that could be funded?
50:39 - Peggy George
I do that too Joan :-) when classrooms are so close one donation can make the difference!
50:52 - Jennifer Maier
me too
50:56 - colleen #2
Sean, yes I've seen a lot of project requests like that.
51:14 - Sean Cotter

Sara - join us on FB --- we'll help you! :-)
52:50 - Peggy George
that's really important!!! break it up into parts and it's much more likely to get funded! big grants scare people away because they don't think they will get fully funded
53:05 - Peggy George
thanks Jamie! great tip!
53:05 - Sara
Just tried submitting for the UPS offer and produce for kids. I thought I followed the guidelines but they didn't offer it.
53:10 - Joan Howze
Peggy - that's true. I learned that the hard way.
53:26 - Jenny Jones 1
Know your donors, too! Pitch your project to people who can sympathize/understand your needs. For example, people you know who love tech gadgets might contribute to a project asking for an iPad or tablet.
53:27 - Jenn McMaster #2
