Thank you Peggy and hello to everyone!

02:39 - Peggy George
fantastic intro Maureen!!! :-) Thanks!
03:07 - Peggy George
there are still lots of teachers who don't know what coding is and are terrified by it :-)
03:40 - Dotty
21st century skill needed
03:41 - Peggy George
interesting point! didn't realize that coding and programming was debated! I usually think of them as similar
03:47 - Peggy George
definitely Dotty!
04:00 - Peggy George
love the problem solving they learn with coding!!

My teachers are looking for ideas to integrate into their curriculum. Kids loved the Hour of Code
04:51 - Peggy George
the resources in our Livebinder today will help you with all kinds of ideas and projects for continuing the Hour of Code

06:03 - LauraBTRT
TY!!
06:19 - @bcdtech Maureen
I asked the kids and had one 6th grade girl do a great virtual PSA right in the classroom. Kids encounter computing on a daily basis.
06:41 - Peggy George
programming allows students to be producers instead of just consumers!
06:51 - Peggy George
love that idea Maureen!
07:28 - Peggy George
if any of you have links for projects you or your students have done please post them in the chat and I'll add them to the already amazing Livebinder :-)

I have a ~half the kids coming from family farms... they know that so much of the work on a farm now needs computer science knowledge... not must milking the cows and manual labor today

09:35 - Peggy George
good to know Maureen!
09:35 - Patti Ruffing 1
my sstudents grades 3-8 have accounts on code studio
09:44 - Peggy George
thanks for your link Lorie!!
09:55 - Peggy George
Thanks Dejan!
09:58 - Lorie Moffat
You're welcome :)
10:11 - Patti Ruffing 1
kodable is nice for younger kids and now it is web based as well as tablet
10:15 - Peggy George
https://code.org/professional-development-workshops
10:22 - @plnaugle(Paula)
My students did the Minecraft lessons for their Hour of Code.
10:23 - @bcdtech Maureen
I made accounts for all of the kids from K-6. Teachers don't need to know how to solve the puzzles- the kids can figure this out- or collaborate on them
10:30 - Janet P
We have K-8 enrolled for the last 3 yrs
10:31 - Peggy George
all of her links are in the Livebinder including many video examples of projects
11:08 - Peggy George

11:18 - @bcdtech Maureen
I've gone to a couple of the courses- got the swag- cool... but I liked the unplugged demo- which I didn't think I d like
11:47 - Peggy George
I'm definitely going to try the courses! What a great way to learn!
12:14 - Peggy George
Do you all understand the term "unplugged"? You can do the activities without a computer
12:20 - @bcdtech Maureen
My kids in some of the classes loved playing with Bitsbox this year- they sent us "stuff" little booklets to try their code out- it's modified javascript and really fun
12:21 - Peggy George
Welcome Eureka!
12:55 - @plnaugle(Paula)
Love that I don't know the answer to most of my students' questions that came up when they got stuck doing coding. A few got a little frustrated when they couldn't complete a lesson on the first try, but I encouraged them to back up to where they had been successful and then review to get what they needed to learn to complete the level.
12:56 - Peggy George
that's a great way to combined computer labs with classroom unplugged activities!
13:00 - @bcdtech Maureen
I like being able to monitor the work- see if they are skipping around, how successful they are, etc
13:14 - Patti Ruffing 1
we had a problem with some of the student progress not being save and in the small print at the top of the web page it said, due to high volume some work may not be saved
13:23 - Peggy George
thanks Paula! that's great encouragement for people just getting started!
13:59 - Peggy George
that's scary Patti! definitely worth knowing about! Is there a way to back it up?

14:18 - @bcdtech Maureen
@pnaugle I got stuck on a level of Lightbot last year- went home and woke up in the night and figured it out- took a screenshot nd told the kids the sotry the next day. Dem's failure, then some grit... and was successful

Watching the students working together to solve the puzzles is heart-warmng. And the high fives and cheers that rang out when one was successful were great to see and hear.
15:30 - Peggy George
what fun Paula!!! kids get so excited when they're doing these projects!
16:04 - @bcdtech Maureen
Which apps?
16:12 - Peggy George
:-)
16:15 - @bcdtech Maureen
:)
16:42 - Patti Ruffing 1
i highly recommend Kodable for younger kids, our K kids love it
17:30 - @plnaugle(Paula)
@Maureen, the first year of Hour of Code, I remember doing that too. Was so excited when I could complete each challaenge. I had never coded before, but loved figure them out.
18:00 - @bcdtech Maureen
I gave kids in 3-6 choices- funny how some kids loved minecraft, some loved starwars, some went back to the angry birds, or flappy... many loved bitsbox and a few stalwart codecombat kids. not as many tynker kids this year- not sure why.
18:09 - Peggy George
love that description! things my students can do when they're done with something :-)
18:51 - Peggy George

Free--the magic word for teachers!
22:23 - @bcdtech Maureen
We have ipads in K-1- not 1:1 , just for centers. Haven't gone in to play with them with coding yet. Did an intro of KIbo with K this past week http://kinderlabrobotics.com/kibo/ They loved it
22:56 - Peggy George
have any of you tried the paid account for Kodable?
23:10 - Patti Ruffing 1
we have only used free

29:04 - Susie @shighley 1
What a list!
29:26 - Peggy George
I didn't put the solutions guide in the Livebinder because it might spoil it for people who want to figure it out on their own :-)
