I remember the open source labs at ISTE!
17:09 - NikkiDRobertson #2
Steve Hargadon is one of my EDU heroes!
17:19 - Peggy George
Steve has conducted so many fantastic interviews over the years!
17:21 - @plnaugle(Paula)
Thanks to Steve for getting us started.
17:45 - @bcdtech Maureen
I remember going back to the edublogger.com days and the ning... vrooom... Steve has been a pioneer as we moved from web 1.0 to 2.0 and going forward
17:50 - Peggy George
I have done the same thing and had to go back to a presenter to ask them to recreate the entire webinar. :-(
17:51 - Billy (@wkrakower)
Sorry about being late but had to run to Baby store to get a nose thingy for Bree
18:03 - Peggy George
Welcome Billy!!! We're so glad you're here!
18:22 - @bcdtech Maureen
Hi Billy, glad you could make it
18:22 - @plnaugle(Paula)
I remember what a newbie I was the first time I attended a webinar here. I was so scared and nervous.
18:23 - Peggy George
now that's entrepreneurship at it's best!!!!
19:11 - @plnaugle(Paula)
I think I said hi at the beginning and bye at the end because I wasn't sure how to use the chat feature properly. LOL
19:26 - Melissa Getz
Steve's work is one reason I have been able to learn as much as I have about how to use technology in the classroom. Thank you, Steve.
20:16 - Steve Hargadon
Hurrah for Peggy, Lorna, Kim, Lorie, Tammy, and all!
20:36 - Steve Hargadon
Ten years now for ISTE unplugged!
20:41 - Kim T. AZ
Remember this Ning....
20:41 - Patti Ruffing
They have worked so hard and contributed so much
20:48 - Susie @shighley 2
I was there!
20:56 - Toni Plourde #2
I was nervous on my first webinar ever which happened to be Classroom 2.0 live ! I am so glad I made that step to join !
20:59 - @plnaugle(Paula)
Me too.
21:04 - Steve Hargadon
It's hard to remember how amazing that felt at the time.
21:19 - Kim T. AZ
We are still using many of these.
21:19 - @bcdtech Maureen
wow- webast academy!
22:07 - Patti Ruffing
Google reader is gone
22:16 - NikkiDRobertson #2
LOL! What a trip down memory lane!
22:28 - LucianeCurator 1 #2
:)
22:32 - @bcdtech Maureen
I still have a feedly acct to replace google reader... but rarely reference it
22:33 - Toni Plourde #2
Seven years goes so fast!
23:10 - Patti Ruffing
Yay, Paula
23:12 - Steve Hargadon
I use Feedly for at least 1+ hour day
23:25 - Peggy George
Classroom 2.0 has definitely borne fruit!!!! so many of us got our start with it!
23:31 - Peggy George
hahaha :-)
23:34 - Steve Hargadon
:)
23:34 - Melissa Getz
Thank you to Peggy for making these Saturday mornings possible in so many ways. (Not to dismiss the work from everybody else, but you know we can do this because of the work Peggy does.)
23:34 - Patti Ruffing
I used to just lurk and never write in chat
23:42 - Peggy George
so many of us have experienced that feeling!
23:43 - Toni Plourde #2
I stumbled upon it because I was listening to Steve's interviews
24:00 - Toni Plourde #2
I joined his various Ning's
24:23 - Peggy George
every person in this room has experience and ideas to share about PD! get ready to take the mic!!!! we want to hear from you!
24:44 - Peggy George
you can start raising your hand now and she'll call on you in order :-)
24:52 - Peggy George
there will be a little number by your name
25:25 - NikkiDRobertson #2
50 hours every 5 years for recertification in Alabama
25:27 - Peggy George
tell us what is required in your school/district :-)
25:37 - @bcdtech Maureen
I don't even know... they only give us 150/yr to do whatever
25:41 - NikkiDRobertson #2
I usually log over 500 hours in that time! LOL!
25:43 - Peggy George
raise your hand :-)
25:55 - Dotty
No pd required in Cal to renew credential
26:01 - Peggy George
hooray Nikki and Patti!!!!
26:09 - Toni Plourde #2
agreed Maureen $150 for each year
26:18 - tam
100 hours every 5 years through accredited programs and 44 every year through everything else
26:18 - Martine 1
None apart from staff meeting and divisional Pd days
26:28 - Susie @shighley 2
We have to do 30 hours of meetings each school year for the district. 90 hours every 5 years for Indiana
26:32 - Peggy George
I'm curious how many of you are able to use the certificates from our show for PD credit hours?
26:34 - Melissa Getz
I think I still have to do 150 hrs/ 5 yrs in CA. It depends on when you got your certificate.
26:43 - Peggy George
that is fantastic Nikki!
27:17 - Peggy George
every state seems to have different requirements
27:24 - Kim T. AZ
Patti - AZ it is 160 hours over 6 years.
27:37 - Susie @shighley 2
Seems like many states have become more lenient in what they will count. Some even give credit for voxer book studies.
27:50 - @plnaugle(Paula)
I have a lifetime certificate and am not required to do PD.
27:57 - Peggy George
we have a lot of people asking for certificates for watching our recordings :-)
28:31 - Susie @shighley 2
Peggy, about how many ask in an average week?
28:43 - tam
i think that we in serbia can't use certificates from this show, but again, i never checked...
28:46 - Peggy George
unfortunately some of our best learning is done on our own and districts don't give credit for it :-(
28:57 - Melissa Getz
I have a teaching certificate in 23 states. since I am have/ am getting professional level credentials in FL, NV, WI, SD, and AZ there have been specific classes I've had to take just to get the credential. Those credits will count for any state, though.
29:05 - JasminaM.
You are right Peggy
29:36 - Billy (@wkrakower)
Can't talk
29:45 - Lorie Moffat
yes
29:56 - Peggy George
Susie, it varies. Sometimes it corresponds to vacation times and sometimes it's just watching a recent show that they missed. One time I had someone request 40 certificates at one time. Don't recommend that...
30:07 - Kim T. AZ
What about in your districts? Any requirements?
30:15 - Peggy George
edcamps have definitely changed the way we learn!!!
30:27 - Kim T. AZ
Shout out for EdCamps!
30:33 - Peggy George
Hi Thomas! Welcome!
30:42 - @plnaugle(Paula)
Image an Edcamp with 400 educators.
31:08 - Peggy George
TeachMeets are great! We have some in Phoenix.
31:40 - Billy (@wkrakower)
No problem
31:42 - Melissa Getz
I've found most states actually want college level credits. I've only tried to renew 2 credentials so far- had to take a specific class for FL and am still waiting to see if that one will be renewed. Utah renewal went just fine.
31:43 - Peggy George
Let's keep moving along with the questions. We have so many great things to talk about!
32:15 - Peggy George
if you are someone who offers PD for teachers this would be a great question to jump on and share what you do and why :-)
32:26 - NikkiDRobertson #2
32:36 - Peggy George
just in time learning is the key for me!
32:37 - @bcdtech Maureen
by topic... free... choose a lot of webinars, edcamps, follow a few blogs
32:44 - NikkiDRobertson #2
I'm with Kim...All of the above!
32:45 - Peggy George
love podcasts and webinars and now Blab!!!
32:53 - @plnaugle(Paula)
Definitely, Nikki. Twitter is where I have learned so much.
33:09 - Peggy George
Nikki and Lisa Schmucki! Jump on this question :-)
33:23 - Susie @shighley 2
Sometimes it's our admiration for a presenter, no matter what they are speaking on
33:33 - @plnaugle(Paula)
Peggy George is my hero.
33:50 - Peggy George
there's nothing more exciting than getting to meet someone face to face at a conference that you have connected with regularly in social media!!!
34:01 - Peggy George
Yes Lisa!!!! Talk to us!
34:08 - Kim T. AZ
Love EdWeb! A powerful resource for educators!
34:15 - Susie @shighley 2
Yes, many great opps through edweb
34:16 - Melissa Getz
I've become a fan of Udemy, MOOCs, and online courses I can take on my own time. Many for low cost or free.
34:22 - @bcdtech Maureen
edweb.net is awesome! Thanks to Peggy for introducing me to it!
34:46 - @plnaugle(Paula)
Taking part in MOOCs is an incredible experience.
34:48 - Peggy George
EdWeb is such a fabulous way to hear from amazing educators! I try to attend their webinars every week! At least 2-4 a week!
34:49 - Patti Ruffing
I used to embed the EdWeb calendar for my teachers on our online Daily Bulletin but did someone say it is not available anymore?
35:07 - Kim T. AZ
Some of you may have heard me say in the past....Peggy George is a mentor to the world!
35:28 - Patti Ruffing
agree, Kim!
35:28 - Peggy George
and edWeb is free!!!! we had a show back in 2014 that tells all about it so you can listen to the recording if you'd like to know more :-)
35:30 - Susie @shighley 2
I like webinars that are more interactive, like the ones on Collaborate and edweb. Some platforms don't seem to allow as much interaction amond participants
35:40 - @bcdtech Maureen
@Melissa and Paula- i am not good at completing MOOCs- I need a more blended learning style- or actually know some people in the class. I need the peer pressure
36:00 - Melissa Getz
If National level conferences come to SF and I know they are here, I try to go. Otherwise, can't really afford to go. I can afford entrance fees and BART (subway) travel. Flights and hotels have gotten a bit pricey for me.
36:04 - Kim T. AZ
Thanks Lisa, that can be valuable to many teachers.
36:14 - @plnaugle(Paula)
I'm starting one soon Maureen. I'll send you an email about it.
36:15 - NikkiDRobertson #2
Alabama provides FREE e-learning course for PD credit. Up to 30 hours for a course can be earned.
36:16 - @bcdtech Maureen
@Patti- It seems like the edweb calendar has disappeared.. maybe Lisa can tell us
36:17 - Patti Ruffing
My teachers have taken advantage of EdWeb webinars for that reason
36:25 - @DrThomasHo (Indiana)
I like edWeb webinars because it doesN'T require Java
36:31 - Kim T. AZ
Hopefully Donors Choose will bring back funding for PD, including travel.
36:34 - Peggy George
Paula ask Lisa that question now :-)
36:41 - NikkiDRobertson #2
Hoover City Schools in AL gives their teachers PD credit for attending Twitter Chats
36:41 - Susan
I like simplek12.com
36:59 - Peggy George
that was awesome Lisa! Thanks so much for all you do for educators on edWeb!!!
37:05 - Patti Ruffing
I think that is the one stumbling block with Blackboard Collaborate, the java requirement.
37:20 - Peggy George
I hear that question about Twitter a lot!
37:41 - Melissa Getz
@Maureen- the beauty of MOOCs is you don't have to complete them. I've only completed 2 so far- some of the online courses get too difficult too fast for me to keep up. (ie. Calculus)
38:07 - Peggy George
this question #2 is one all of you could comment on!!! Tell us how you decide what you will participate in. :-)
38:29 - Peggy George
that is so exciting to hear Nikki!!!!
38:35 - Melissa Getz
@Patti- java turns out to be a barrier for many people with more than just Bb. It is unfortunate.
38:44 - @bcdtech Maureen
@Melissa- true, but then I feel guilty. I loved the MOOC that the Scratch folks did a few years back.. and have signed up several times for the tinkering fundamentals- never actually did it
38:44 - Patti Ruffing
What documentation is presented for proof of presentation in twitter chat?
38:47 - Peggy George
raise your hands!!!!! the more people we hear from the better!
39:13 - NikkiDRobertson #2
Because EdCamps are AWESOME!
39:26 - Kim T. AZ
I kept forgetting about live shows I wanted to attend so now I add them to my calendar, with several reminders, so I don't miss them
39:31 - Melissa Getz
I do PD I can do on my own time. Webinars that are not interactive and are not recorded are now frustrating. If I can't interact with others, why do I have to show up at a specific time?
39:32 - Peggy George
absolutely Billy!!!! we often go to EdCamps just to connect with other educators!
39:44 - @bcdtech Maureen
EdCamps offer so many choices. Love edcampBoston, edcampCT and edcampAccess
39:54 - Peggy George
excellent point Melissa! want to share it on the mic?
39:57 - Kim T. AZ
The discussions can be so rich and informative at EdCamps.
40:04 - @plnaugle(Paula)
I am so jealous that the NE area has so many of these opportunities.
40:33 - Peggy George
CoffeeEDU's have grown out of edcamps I think. They are great too!
40:49 - Melissa Getz
@Kim, if you're talking about Classroom2.0, they have a calendar that will automatically post to a Google calendar- that is how I remember about these Sat meetings.
41:14 - @bcdtech Maureen
@Paula I wish I had the time to go to Edcampseacoast over in NH ... I think Grafton had one, there has been some down the Cape, etc
41:20 - Kim T. AZ
@Melissa That is the one I do remember...it is all the others, afterschool and suh
42:08 - Peggy George
http://www.livebinders.com/play/play?id=1820985
42:33 - Melissa Getz
I'm not feeling coherent enough for the mic at the moment, but thank you for the offer. I'm better this morning where I can fix typos.
42:36 - Patti Ruffing
thanks so much, Peggy
42:41 - @bcdtech Maureen
Here's few Assistive Tech/sped ones to add http://ctdinstitute.org/cafe, http://atcoalition.org/news/january-2015-webinar-listing
42:58 - Peggy George
no problem Melissa! thanks for typing in the chat :-)
43:11 - @bcdtech Maureen
Listening to someone read the GD powerpoint... I have to leave
43:12 - Tiziana Angiolini from ITALY 1
Thanks Peggy : a great job and I must confess that you are the Master of online webinars !:)
43:19 - Peggy George
thanks Maureen!!! I'll add that to the Livebinder!
43:19 - Melissa Getz
Best PD- National meetings. NSTA, ASCD, NABT are awesome!
43:26 - Kim T. AZ
The speaker with a monotone voice that puts you to sleep
43:30 - Peggy George
don't be shy!!!
43:44 - Peggy George
Maureen get on the mic!
43:46 - Kim T. AZ
@bcdtech - amen! I can read the PPT myself!
43:57 - Kim T. AZ
Play dates?
43:58 - Peggy George
never heard of playdates
43:58 - @bcdtech Maureen
I've heard of them
44:02 - Peggy George
tell us!!!!
44:02 - Billy (@wkrakower)
Nikki how I miss hear your voice
44:07 - Carolyn Stanley
Hi, all! Sorry I'm late! I was cooking lunch for my hubby and lost track of time.
44:16 - Melissa Getz
I clicked talk, but I don't think it i set up for me to give a shout out for national meetings.
44:18 - Billy (@wkrakower)
We have Breakfast EDU's and meet ups
44:19 - Kim T. AZ
Can you explain what this is?
44:21 - Dotty
Unprepared presenter, no visuals or resources, presenter flying by the seat if their pants.😗
44:36 - Melissa Getz
thx
44:44 - Lorie Moffat
Melissa, you have the mic tool now.
44:50 - Peggy George
Nikki presents some awesome tech tool workshops for her teachers and she streams them on Google Plus so we can all watch it from afar! I love that!
44:52 - Kim T. AZ
@Dotty - thanks
44:56 - @bcdtech Maureen
I want someone near me to have a breakoutedu playdate- so I can see it...before I try to get $ for it
45:36 - Peggy George
if any of you have links to share for PD resources please add them in the chat and I'll add them to the Livebinder!
45:57 - Susie @shighley 2
Maureen, I want to do that too!
45:58 - Peggy George
oh yes!!!! the mini-geekfest got started after Kim did that!
46:05 - Patti Ruffing
sounds like so much fun
46:05 - LucianeCurator 1 #2

46:56 - Lisa Schmucki with edWeb 1
I'm so sorry I have to leave everyone. This is such a great conversation. I'll watch the rest as the recording.
47:03 - Kim T. AZ
Bye Lisa!
47:34 - Kim T. AZ
We have also taken control of our learning. Knowing when to leave, using the power of our own two feet.
47:38 - Lisa Schmucki with edWeb 1
Also, on the edWeb calendar question... we implemented a new calendar that is great in many ways but we need to work on the integration with Google. We're working on it!
47:47 - Peggy George
this is a link to all of the recordings from our mini-geekfests. What a hoot! http://minigeekfest.wikispaces.com/

My mic is not working...but how about those of you who try to give PD... I do PD on an as needed basis, on PD days, etc... also do a tech tuesday blog... feel like no one really cares/// actually has "time" to care.
48:43 - Peggy George
ISTE is so expensive! That's why the free virtual conferences are so valuable!
48:46 - Susie @shighley 2
Lisa, I actually wrote to edweb about it. At least we are able to embed individual webinars to google calendars
49:47 - Kim T. AZ
PD, for the most part, and depending on the circumstances, need to meet the need of the group you are working with.
49:48 - Peggy George
Steve H. Could you share some of the things you have learned over the years about what works/doesn't for the PD you have developed?
50:20 - Peggy George
I don't do well in whole group presentations/workshops because I can never keep up and fall way behind.
50:22 - Melissa Getz
National meetings that happen in a specific city for 3-4 days are an old fashioned way of doing PD. They are days of many 1 hr sessions. True immersion and way to bond with other teachers f2f from all over.
50:59 - Susie @shighley 2
Sorry. I got mesage it couldn't connect
51:22 - Peggy George
try again Susie after you finish audio setup wizard :-)
51:26 - Melissa Getz
If ISTE ever comes to SF, I want to go. (I don't know how to fly at the moment- long story)
51:38 - Kim T. AZ
When time allows, I love to work with small groups, even one-to-one. This provides a great opportunity to help them, at their own pace, addressing their questions.
51:51 - @bcdtech Maureen
PD should be UDL as much as possilbe- front loaded with as many ways to connect as possiible
52:00 - Lorie Moffat
Susie's in audio setup wizard.
52:02 - Peggy George
are you clicking on Talk Susie? don't click on the microphone
52:24 - Susie @shighley 2
I was clicking on talk, but then got error message. Clicked on setup by mistake after that.
52:40 - Lorie Moffat
Setup ought to fix the error.
52:45 - Peggy George
ok -- so sorry! would love to hear from you! try again
52:59 - @bcdtech Maureen
Yes- I also co teach or do the first lesson. I do sandbox sessions with teachers- and with kids- any time I am showing a new tool
53:04 - Kim T. AZ
Quick PD....create a short video to show a particular step or process. I create them, on an as needed basis, then store them in Google for all so have access.
53:08 - Susie @shighley 2
I was mainly going to mention that librarians have such a strong, supportive network. There is something almost every Monday night. Strong networks through both ISTE and AASL
53:19 - Peggy George
Susie, I made you a moderator. See if that makes a difference
53:42 - Susie @shighley 2
Also, I love national meetings. Teachers rarely get to go to them. I went to many NSTA's when teaching science, both national and regional. Have been to NAGC,
53:43 - NikkiDRobertson #2
Agree with Melissa. I learn more at national conferences in impromptu hallway meetings
53:48 - Peggy George
so glad you made the point about embedded PD Nikki! That's so important!
53:50 - Carolyn Stanley
It's been a while, but most of the teachers learned the technology when they brought the classes into the lab, and we integrated the technology tools into their curriculum. Eventually, they were able to do it on their own. Of course, the kids were our best teachers, as well.
53:52 - Susie @shighley 2
sorry, error again
54:16 - Kim T. AZ
Love co-teaching. I think of it as co-teaching with not only the teacher, but the students. There have been times when I teach the students and let them be in charge in the classroom.
54:17 - Peggy George
so sorry!
54:23 - NikkiDRobertson #2
Librarians should be a schools "go to" person for tech PD.
54:27 - Melissa Getz
as much as folks love edCamps, I went to one and it was awful for me- at National meetings it is really easy to come and go out of rooms so you can attend more than one session in an hour- and the edCamp I went to was just too disorganized. Really not my flavor of PD.
54:29 - Peggy George
you're doing an awesome job Paula!!!!
54:31 - @bcdtech Maureen
I survey folks... but they don't know what they don't know
54:35 - Susie @shighley 2
Kim-- great point. often some of our best sources are in our own building or district!
54:35 - NikkiDRobertson #2
I love you, Billy!
54:43 - Peggy George
Yes Carolyn always has lots of great ideas!!
54:45 - NikkiDRobertson #2
:o
55:03 - Peggy George
raise your hand Carolyn :-) take the mic!
55:15 - Patti Ruffing
Maureen, that is a real stumbling block, they don't know what they don't know. Teachers who do not go beyond the classroom walls don't know what is out there that they could and should learn.
55:30 - Peggy George
it's rarely one size fits all :-)
55:36 - Peggy George
hooray Carolyn!!
55:46 - @plnaugle(Paula)
Yes, Maureen, I like sending out a Google Form to get a handle on what they need.
55:50 - Peggy George
yes
55:51 - Patti Ruffing
yes
55:53 - Susie @shighley 2
yes
56:01 - Peggy George
perfect Carolyn
56:01 - Patti Ruffing
great
56:15 - @bcdtech Maureen
@Patti I try to pick one grade/class and work with them on new stuff... if it can catch on in one grade, then I have more luck getting a few more to try it
56:56 - Peggy George
the hands on time is so important!!!
57:00 - Kim T. AZ
@bcdtech This has worked for me as well over the last 2 years. This year, coding and online assessment tools. Starting to get other grade levels to come on board....
57:18 - @bcdtech Maureen
yes, 1:1 is the best way for many.
57:29 - Peggy George
great advice Carolyn!!!! Thanks!
57:32 - @plnaugle(Paula)
Having a co=presenter allows for having someone give personal help as needed.
57:52 - Susie @shighley 2
Melissa, sorry about your edcamp experience. I have been to edcamps in 4 different states, and they never disappoint
57:56 - Peggy George
fantastic!!!!
58:23 - @DrThomasHo (Indiana) #2
Retirement is over-rated 😉
58:35 - Peggy George
having video tutorials help me a lot!!!
58:47 - Carolyn Stanley
I am actually managing the website and Facebook page for my local Women Redefining Retirement group. They have been asking for some computer help, and I've been giving it on a one-to-one basis,
58:51 - Peggy George
haha Thomas!!! not for me! I love being retired!!
59:03 - Peggy George
yes
59:06 - @bcdtech Maureen
I have a google calendar with appt slots- teachers can sign up with me for any amt of time... 20 min slots. But, as always, time is the hard part
59:34 - Peggy George
excellent point about the parallels between teacher and student learning!
59:42 - Kim T. AZ
@bcdtech Thanks for the great idea!
59:57 - Patti Ruffing
that's true, people will shy away from an area where they have no confidence, like me with bowling
1:00:06 - Kim T. AZ
Got to attend one of these workshops....it was great!
1:00:15 - Peggy George
I love those Classroom 2.0 meetups and Hack Ed conversations!! Powerful!
1:00:35 - Carolyn Stanley
I think using the flipped classroom technique is terrific for PD. It's always there. I understand that some of the teachers and students are still using the videos I made on using Word to design a newsletter, or on basic Excel, or PhotoShop, etc.
1:00:48 - Peggy George
so true!!!!
1:00:52 - Peggy George
Thanks a lot Steve!
1:01:03 - Toni Plourde #2
well said!
1:01:07 - Peggy George
our time is up but this has been fabulous!!!!
1:01:21 - Steve Hargadon
Thanks to all!
1:01:36 - Steve Hargadon
Thanks for "reinventing" PD
1:01:42 - Kim T. AZ
Thanks to everyone for sharing! Love this PLN!!!!
1:01:44 - Susie @shighley 2
Carolyn- great point on flipped PD
1:01:57 - Carolyn Stanley
I will tell you one pet peeve. When I would attend a PD session, I would look around at some of my peers who were paying absolutely no attention and were out playing games or checking email. That was even when the presenter was good.
1:01:59 - Melissa Getz
Thank you to everybody for their contributions and for listening/reading mine.
1:01:59 - Patti Ruffing
you always do a great job, Paula
1:02:24 - Carolyn Stanley
Great job, Paula.
1:02:25 - Kim T. AZ
Congrats to Peggy and her team - 7 years....wahoo!
